After their daughter Maribel suffers a near-fatal accident, the Rivera Family leaves Mexico for the U.S. in hopes that she will get better. But after settling in a Delaware apartment building, the American dream isn’t what it once seemed: language, racial & cultural barriers lay in wait at every turn. Enter high school sophomore, Mayor Toro, an immigrant Panamanian who lives in Maribel’s building—& it’s love at first sight. But as they grow closer, violence casts a shadow over their futures in America.

Despuès que su hija Maribel sufre un accidente casi fatal, los Riveras salen de Mèxico hacia los Estados Unidos en la esperanza de que ella se mejore. Pero despuès de establecerse en un apartamento en Delaware, el sueño Americano no es lo que se pensaba: el lenguaje, barreras raciales y culturales estan a la esquina. Entra estudiante de segundo año de la superior, Mayor Toro, quien es inmigrante de Panamá y vive en el edificio de Maribel y se enamoran los dos. Pero mientras crecen como pareja la violencia lanza una sombra sobre su futuro en  Amèrica.

The group will meet Wednesday, July 8, 7-8:30 pm, 3rd Floor, Seminar Room, Main Library. Attendees have the option to read in English and/or Spanish. Discussions may also be in English and Spanish. Attendees do not have to be bilingual.
