Rachel Kushner’s riveting debut novel is set at a crucial moment in time—the years leading up to the Castro’s revolution—in a small, yet elite American community in  Cuba. In the Oriente Province, local sugar and nickel production are controlled by American interests. In this coming of age story, young Everly and KC observe the indulgences and betrayals of the adult world and are swept up by the revolt led by Fidel and Raúl Castro.
